Jatujak Weekend Market |
|
Everyone has heard of “Jatujak” the center of a great variety of goods, lots of shops, and Thai products, wholesale market for farmers’ products and local handicrafts. Furthermore, this place is a big market for Thai local products export. The variety and lively atmosphere of Jatujak Market has added colour to the weekend for Bangkok people for long time. This place has helped create careers and added wealth to thousands of people and attracts huge numbers of foreign tourists. Jatujak has a long history of being the largest market in the world, covering 68 rai (1 rai = 1,600 square meters) and made up of 27 sections. It has 10,000 shops and 300 vendors.
The thought of visiting a reconstruction of some of Thailand’s temples and houses on the outskirts of Bangkok might sound like a day at a tacky amusement park, but without the rides. However, The Ancient City (Muang Boran) in Samut Prakan is a pleasant surprise and a good way to spend a morning or an afternoon. The Ancient City is popular with school kids, tourists, lexpats and local people alike, but it never feels too crowded here, especially on weekdays. The attraction actually opened in 1972, which will immediately answer your question about just how ancient it is. It’s located near enough to Bangkok to make it an easy place to visit for a few hours, but it’s far enough away to be a temporary respite from the hustle an bustle of the busy capital. It’s a good idea to head here in the morning, just after rush hour, so that you can enjoy the sights before the hottest part of the day begins, but also so as not to get caught up in late afternoon traffic on the way back. |
Chiangmai night bazarr: Chiangmai
Night Bazaar is the city's premier attraction and hours spent wandering amid the cacophony of hawkers, noisy haggling and all manner of traditional goods and electronic tchotchkes are part and parcel of the city's charms.xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />xml:namespace prefix = o />xml:namespace prefix = o />
Located on north to south running along Changklan road between Thaphae and Loikroh roads, the shopping starts around 6pm each night and slows down at about l l p.m. The actual Night Bazaar is a modern, antiseptic, three-story build ing, but the indoor and outdoor market extends south to Sridonchai road and far beyond. Many shops and stalls remain open throughout the day and evening too.
The stalls have grandiose names, like Harrods (with the familiar logo), and most carry Bangkok-produced counterfeits of international name-brand cloth ing, watches, and luggage. There are thousands of pirated audiotapes and videodiscs, acres of burnished brown "bone" objects, masks, wood carvings, opium pipes, opium weights, you name it.
